What with the ongoing Kim Kardashian media frenzy, here's a video to remind us all that nothing we see on TV is real, even if it's marketed as “reality programming.” This video is from an older BBC show.

Editing is everything in television is crucial, Charlie Brooker explains. Editing can turn a simple scene in which nothing happens and make it look like the most dramatic event ever to play on your TV screen.

Editing, in other words, is the one thing on which reality programming relies. This should leave no doubt as to how “real” what we see on “reality” shows actually is.
