From SF To Reality: The Holographic Projector

Do you remember those extraordinary holographic screens from the SF movie "Minority Report"? Well, it seems that they have given some ideas to many electronic equipment developers. As a result, one of the most advanced devices developed according to this concept is the M2 Heliodisplay multimedia projector created using IO2 Technology.

M2 Heliodisplay projects a 3D image with a diagonal of 76 centimeters, with a 4:3 aspect, directly above it, at a height of up to 71 centimeters. Moreover, it has a "virtual touchscreen" control system that resembles quite closely the one from the aforementioned movie.
Another advantage of this revolutionary projector is its size, since it's not bigger than a PC case and can be masked quite easily, thus amplifying the visual effect.

But the list of advantages doesn't stop here. The projector doesn't need any special cables, as it connects directly to a computer via a standard TV or DVD cable, nor specialized hardware or software components. Moreover, a hardware upgrade is also available for the system, which boosts the projection source brightness from 1600 to 2200 lumens and increases the native resolution to SXGA (1024x768 pixels) and maximum resolution of 1280x1024 pixels.

The manufactures tell us that the M2 Heliodisplay projects visible, high-quality images in normal office lighting conditions, which are also recommended for obtaining a very good image contrast, but it can also be used, with small adjustments, in other types of environments, as for example museums or nightclubs. In any case, the range of uses is quite wide, and it's quite possible that this device will be considered, somewhere in the future, the grandfather of 3D TV.
