For some weeks, Whitney Houston's daughter has been dating Nick Gordon, whom the late singer “unofficially adopted” 10 years ago. News of their romance took even her best friends by surprise, it has emerged.

Nick and Bobbi Kristina (Krissi) are not related, but they've always considered themselves brother and sister, which would explain the backlash generated by confirmation of the romance.

Just a rumor at first, it's now been confirmed by both Bobbi Kristina and Nick, who took to their respective Twitter pages to defend it, saying it's nobody's business but their own who they choose to date.

TMZ is now saying that even Krissi's close friends were shocked to hear they've taken their relationship one step further.

“According to our sources, Bobbi broke the news to her friends at a BBQ this week, and no one believed it until the two kissed in front of everyone,” the celebrity e-zine says.

“We're told one friend felt the 'relationship' was the result of each of them taking the death of Whitney too hard, but they both brushed off that notion,” adds the report.

Their surprise announcement was followed by plenty of awkwardness, with their friends trying to change the subject, clearly uncomfortable with it.

As per the same media outlet, Krissy doesn't think she's doing anything wrong by dating Nick, even if her own grandmother feels differently.

Cissy Huston, Whitney's mother and Bobbi Kristina's grandmother, went on the record saying she felt the relationship was “incestuous,” adding that she feared Nick might be taking advantage of the situation, as we also reported at the time.

That Nick might not have Krissi's best interest at heart is something the tabloids have also been speculating on, with voices claiming he's just using her, heartbroken and grieving as she is for the loss of her mother – her best friend, as she used to call her.
