No, it's not Christmas yet and you're not dreaming, although it could all very well be too good to be true. A report from Star claims that the actors from the famous sitcom “Friends” have finally agreed to do a movie adaptation, one decade after the TV show ended.

The news was sparked by the fact that Jennifer Aniston, Lisa Kudrow and Courteney Cox were all spotted at dinner together at the Sunset Tower hotel in Los Angeles. A source told the tabloid that the three were celebrating a “possible $5 million [€3,9 million] payday for each cast member.”

The news hasn't been confirmed by anyone else in the industry yet

Before you get your knickers in a twist, you should know that there is little evidence to support this theory, which at this point is looking like wishful thinking. None of the sites and blogs that specialize in movie gossip have picked up on this, and it's hard to believe that these guys, with close connections to the most important people in the industry were not briefed on such a major event.

David Schwimmer was said to be less than enthusiastic about the project

The source also quotes another insider who claims that out of the six main actors, “surprisingly, David Schwimmer is the one not too thrilled about it,” explaining that “he has had a hard time moving on from the show and has a new carer as a director, but it’s a lot of cash and he knows the 20th anniversary is the time to do it.”

We can't ignore the fact that most of the actors involved in the show years ago have denied that such a project was in the works, although Jennifer Aniston and Courteney Cox have expressed their interest in a movie adaptation if it was ever greenlit.

For the moment, they claimed it to be impossible, since all six actors had very busy schedules at the moment and were involved in different projects.

The producers of the sitcom said they wouldn't do a movie

Even the show's original creators and producers expressed doubt about a movie being made, claiming they had no intention of picking up the story, since they felt the story had been told and there was nothing new they wished to add to the narrative at this point.

Martha Kaufman even dismissed the idea of a sequel for the sitcom, saying that she would never be part of such a project. For a while, there was a rumor floating around that the studios were clamoring to make the movie, even without the producers and the actors, but it fell through since “Friends” would be nothing without the original cast, something the network picked up on early, which is why it agreed to pay them millions as time passed just to appear on the show.
