Hopes for a feature film remake shattered by star

Following years of intense speculation and entreaties from fans around the world, in September this year, the first seemingly more accurate report regarding a “Friends” feature film emerged. It seemed to come on good authority, as it was James Michael Tyler, Gunther on the television show, who backed it up. Unfortunately, a reunion is not likely to happen, Lisa Kudrow reveals.

As per a Us Magazine report, Kudrow, who played Phoebe on “Friends” and has therefore more authority to make as much as an estimation as regards what the future may hold, says that the reunion is unlikely to happen. It’s not so much that she or the other five members of the cast are opposed to the idea, she says, but that the show’s creators themselves are so.

“The wait for a ‘Friends’ reunion, sadly, might be forever. Castmate Lisa Kudrow – a.k.a. Phoebe – broke the news to Us Magazine that ‘it doesn’t look like’ a reunion for the blockbuster NBC sitcom will ever happen. ‘Everyone is busy!’ Kudrow explained at Sunday’s P.S. Arts Express Yourself event in Santa Monica, Calif. The biggest objectors, Kudrow suggests, aren’t Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox or any of the actors, but the show’s original writer-creators Marta Kauffman and David Crane. ‘I guess they don’t think it’s a good idea,’ she said.” Us Magazine writes after talking to Kudrow herself.

Kudrow is not that fond of the idea of a reunion either, so here too might lay an obstacle for the long feature film that fans have been waiting for for so many years and that was believed to be ready for the big screen in 2011, as per Tyler’s words of earlier this year. With so many things hindering the development of the remake / reunion, one can’t help but wonder whether it will ever really happen. Some fans, though, choose to think of other shows (Sarah Jessica Parker’s “SATC” comes to mind) that got a similar treatment – and that were eventually brought to the silver screen.

“It would be fun, but I don’t know. How? Why? Really?” Lisa Kudrow tells the aforementioned magazine, still on the topic of the reunion. Until some official announcement is made, fans will have to make do with semi-reunions, like Kudrow shooting an episode for Courteney Cox’s “Cougar Town,” of which she says, “That was really fun! God, Courteney is fantastic! She is so funny. I had such a fun time.”
