‘Friends’ Film Will Not Happen, Lisa Kudrow Reveals

Lisa Kudrow says a “Friends” film is unlikely to happen at this point

Following years of intense speculation and entreaties from fans around the world, in September this year, the first seemingly more accurate report regarding a “Friends” feature film emerged. It seemed to come on good authority, as it was James Michael Tyler, Gunther on the television show, who backed it up. Unfortunately, a reunion is not likely to happen, Lisa Kudrow reveals.

As per a Us Magazine report, Kudrow, who played Phoebe on “Friends” and has therefore more authority to make as much as an estimation as regards what the future may hold, says that the reunion is unlikely to happen. It’s not so much that she or the other five members of the cast are opposed to the idea, she says, but that the show’s creators themselves are so.

“The wait for a ‘Friends’ reunion, sadly, might be forever. Castmate Lisa Kudrow – a.k.a. Phoebe – broke the news to Us Magazine that ‘it doesn’t look like’ a reunion for the blockbuster NBC sitcom will ever happen. ‘Everyone is busy!’ Kudrow explained at Sunday’s P.S. Arts Express Yourself event in Santa Monica, Calif. The biggest objectors, Kudrow suggests, aren’t Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox or any of the actors, but the show’s original writer-creators Marta Kauffman and David Crane. ‘I guess they don’t think it’s a good idea,’ she said.” Us Magazine writes after talking to Kudrow herself.

Kudrow is not that fond of the idea of a reunion either, so here too might lay an obstacle for the long feature film that fans have been waiting for for so many years and that was believed to be ready for the big screen in 2011, as per Tyler’s words of earlier this year. With so many things hindering the development of the remake / reunion, one can’t help but wonder whether it will ever really happen. Some fans, though, choose to think of other shows (Sarah Jessica Parker’s “SATC” comes to mind) that got a similar treatment – and that were eventually brought to the silver screen.

“It would be fun, but I don’t know. How? Why? Really?” Lisa Kudrow tells the aforementioned magazine, still on the topic of the reunion. Until some official announcement is made, fans will have to make do with semi-reunions, like Kudrow shooting an episode for Courteney Cox’s “Cougar Town,” of which she says, “That was really fun! God, Courteney is fantastic! She is so funny. I had such a fun time.”

i was so upset to hear about no friends reunion.everyone i know said they loved friends even the younger gerneration.they all said they would go to the movie people from 13-40. i know people who were only 7 or 8 when the show was on and never watched it but watch the reruns today, which shows it can get market from the younger generation aswel as the older film goers .even if the movie wasnt great alot of people would still go as they were so fond of the old shows.
wel, thats my opinion , but i hope they change their minds ,real soom

It sucks that they might not do it, but if they do, they should make it so it comes out in 2014, ten years since its end. Monica can be the first to speak again and Chandler the last. We could forget the whole Joey incident and just see how they are all doing.
The twins would be 10, Ben would be 20, and Emma would be 12. Mike and Phoebe would hopefully have kids too.
It saddens me that it might not happen, but they have so many fans out there that even if it is not as good as the series, people will still love it.
Maybe if all the fans rally behind the show, and show support, they might just give it a go :)

Please say you are right!! I am only 11 and me and my friends are FRIENDS maniacs!! We have been hoping for a FRIENDS movie ever since we first heard the rumours, which was 2 years ago. FREINDS IS THE BEST!!!! Seriously, i think the writers and acters can make it possibly even funnier than the series with the whole idea of being old now! I wonder if Ursula would possibly be in the movie??
Please make a movie!!! :)

I 'm torn. On one hand I would love it if they made a movie so we could see all the characters together again. But on the other hand it will be terribly sad to see how much everything's changed. Everyone who's been a big fan of the show-myself included- have probably imagined how life's turned out for the character as least in small ways-so being told how the last 8-9 years have panned out for the characters will be strange. Plus if it went wrong it would be tragic!
If they do do a movie they will have to get the same writers in-they were fantastic!

they could make it so it shows monica in a cab looking out of the window and then she says something like, im gunna miss that house chandler. and chandler says what? and he has a load of paint on his face from where their kids have been painting him or something. and then it carrys on and then they show mike and pheobe, and they say stuff, and then it shows joey and URSULA! or someone, and then he's on the phone to to pheobe, and then they talk, and someone knocks on the door and it turns out to be ross looking for his cat, and then he's like OMG! and then he says, oh hang on, lily is on the phone, and then they carry on and then it shows rachell in paris talking french but then as the movie goes on rachel and ross get to gether again! MAYBE? that was just off the top of my head.

Comment #7.2 by: Zethaaron on 03 May 2011, 03:28 GMT

@melixzahh
Sorry to tell you if you haven't seen it, but rachel didn't go to paris? they got back together in the last episode so, that makes no sense.

I wish there was a Friends movie. Got the box set, watch Friends every night. If there was a movie, endless people would go see it. Sad to know there wont be a re-union.

You know, I love friends, I mean really love it, such a great show. Although, how many shows run for 10 seasons, then don't even get cancelled, just end, and it had a really great ending! There was nothing left to explain, i mean really, how many shows get that? a great ending to a long, great story. As great as seeing a movie would be, why open up the book again and risk not as good an ending? How to do it justice, what would the plot even be? I'd love to see more friends but, maybe it would be best just to let it lay with the great ending it got, and deserved.

Comment #11.1 by: FRIENDS#1Fan on 07 Jul 2011, 07:44 GMT

wow! I can't believe you just said that!!!! gosh! even if the MOVIE will not be as GOOD as THE SERIES was, STILL, it's worth a TRY??? don't yah think??? I mean, how can you say that it will not do justice to the series??? maybe they have not made more efforts to come up with a great STORY... maybe the writers are just too afraid that they might not surpass what they have done... because we all know that THEY HAVE DONE A MARVELOUS JOB in CREATING THE ENTIRE 10 seasons of FRIENDS...

Comment #12 by: jackieloks on 01 Jun 2011, 04:53 UTC reply to this comment

Ross had a lot of weddings, and the show had a lot of weddings, and they never gave us the main wedding....Rachel's wedding!! She deserved a nice one and not the Vegas mistake. I was really disappointed that I didn't get to see Rachel have a decent wedding I would like to see that in a movie. The ONE wedding and Ross's last one LOL!

omg, i am only 14 and am loving friends! it is so sad that the producers wont continue through with the movie though. i mean if they dont want to put a lot of effort into it then why start friends in the first place? i can not live my life knowing their wont ever be a friends movie. asides from homework and school all i do is watch friends because my parents bought the box set (so worth it!) , it makes me so happy and its just amazing that somsthing that great could exist.....so please could you make a friends movie?!!!!

Comment #17 by: JMaloon on 07 Jul 2011, 21:20 UTC reply to this comment

Soooooo many people would watch it! I can understand that it might be kinda difficult to write, but it would be worth it so all your fans can see where Ross and Rachael's relationship went. Monica and Chandler's twin grown up. Phoebe and her husband and music. Joey on his way to stardom. Think about it.

Comment #18 by: km on 18 Jul 2011, 19:26 UTC reply to this comment

I think it would have been a awesome idea. I don't really understand why they would think it wouldn't be but, they are the writers. They are the ones who started the show. It would of been cool to see how things ended up for the characters but, it did end on good terms. I love the show and I trust the creators of it.

Comment #23 by: hdog on 04 Sep 2011, 18:13 UTC reply to this comment

I think all of the actors and actresses in the forties would make the characters more intresting and how each of them have changed. I have been watching this programme for many years. I would agree to James Michael Tyler. You have left us with a cliff hanger by ross and racheal getting together again but we never knew what happened to joey?

Comment #24 by: Smelly Cat on 11 Sep 2011, 07:33 UTC reply to this comment

I think people are crazy to think a film wouldn't be a good idea, the only way it would suck would be if the story line was terrible and if some of the cast is missing. Everyone needs to be on board or it will suck. Make it already were all waiting.

I have watched all of the friends seasons and a reunion would be brilliant! i am only 16 people younger then me love it too and people much older it has a huge fan base and would be brilliant no matter what! Ross and Rachel could have a wedding like they decribed Joey could move in to the bedroom that Chanler and Monica have for him in their new house and Pheobe and Mike could go on play in the coffee house after going on tour and thats where they all meet and you cant forget gunter jannis and ursula ha. only an idea but the film will be great no matter what and it really should happen it would be great to see how they all got on. hope it happens :D
