Owners of Windows Phone 8 devices can now download and install a new highly appealing application on their devices, namely FreshPaint, which comes directly from Microsoft.

The application was made available on Windows 8 a while ago, but Microsoft decided to expand its availability, and has brought it to the smaller screens of smartphones as well.

The app is expected to prove “the ultimate canvas” for users’ ideas, while also being a fun and easy to use painting app.

However, it seems that not all Windows Phone 8 handsets out there can support it, and that it will be available only for the more powerful ones.

Those who download and install the application will take advantage of features such as realistic oil paint and brushes, as well as custom mix colors to create the perfect shades.

Furthermore, the new FreshPaint application can take advantage of artistic camera lenses to allow users to transform photos into paintings.

“The Microsoft app, which requires at least 1 GB RAM, lets you make original works of art, or turn your photos into beautiful paintings with just a few taps,” a recent post on the Windows Phone Blog reads.

“Use the Lens feature to get a live preview of your photo through various filters, like Sketch and Oil. When you’re painting something original, Fresh Paint lets you custom mix colors, choose different brushes, and adjust your brush size as needed.”

Another appealing feature that the application comes with is the support for sharing creations via text message, email, or SkyDrive.

According to the aforementioned blog post, the application was created in a Microsoft Research lab and made its first public appearance at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City, though under a different name, to protect its identity.

Download FreshPaint for Windows Phone 8. It is available for free as version 1.0.1399.1.
