New, questionable jailbreaking services begin to emerge

The so-called jailbreak & unlock solution providers are at it again with fresh advertisements promoting their pricey, questionable hack tools, this time as for iOS 5.0.1.

The latest marketing schemes come from easyra1n.com and appleunlocker.com, two web sites whose offerings seem to be exactly what our readers have labeled as scams.

Attempting to capitalize on the hype surrounding the upcoming release of an untethered iOS 5 jailbreak from Chronic Dev, the EasyRa1n app (if it even exists as you fork out the 25 bucks) is said to provide an untethered hack for the iPhone 4S.

It’s originally promoted over at protoolsusers.org, where a grammar-lacking description seems to contradict itself (emphasis mine):

“How to Unlock and Untethered Jailbreak iPhone 4/4S iOS 5.0.1 with EasyRa1n 0.9.9b8 on iPhone 4, 3GS, iPad 1, iPod Touch 4G, 3G. Thanks to Dev-team as EasyRa1n 0.9.9b8 still able to jailbreak/unlock iOS 5.0.1 untethered for all iOS devices except iPad 2 and iPhone 4S as the featured an advanced hardware available on www.EasyRa1n.com.”

No doubt the service is questionable, just like the ones before it. Not to mention that it appears to be the same nefarious firm featuring the same web site and graphics under a different name.

Moving on to AppleUnlocker, this one is the latest in a seemingly never-ending trail of phony advertisements promising stuff that doesn’t even come with a jailbreak (like Adobe Flash support, and other stuff you'd give an arm and a leg for use on your iPhone).

Here’s their plea:

"COME JOIN WITH US? TRY IT RISK FREE Trying to find how to unlock iPhone? We have carried out rigorous testing on our new iphone unlock solution. We have used this sytem on iPhones in countries all over the world and we can now GUARANTEE that our system will unlock any iPhone model and firmware upgrade. You can try our system 100% risk free and be sure that your sim card will work in all countries worldwide."

At the other end of the spectrum, hard-working hackers like the iPhone Dev Team and Chronic Dev will never push their tools on to anyone.

Yet those tools have been proven time and time again to be the only ones that provide reliable jailbreaks and unlocks. And guess what? They just so happen to be free of charge.

To sum it all up, think before you do anything hasty.

Has anyone here fallen for any traps of this sort? If so, let the world know in the comments.
