An “OSXI” rendering featuring iOS 7 graphics and full iPhone integration

A talented artist is showing off his Mac OS facelift on Dribbble, a community where designers can compare works.

Deruette confesses that his OSXI concept is young, having only redesigned the Dock and the desktop a little.

The coolest thing about it is the right side bar which syncs with the user's iPhone to deliver the same functionality on the desktop. Sort of like an iOS virtual machine. Now that's something Apple could consider for next year’s Mac OS refresh.

“Potentially, this side bar could become the bridge between your phone and your computer and synch your iPhone screen to your desktop, giving you the ability to use your apps on your laptop,” explains Deruette.

“The finder remains pretty much the same. Only the UI is aligned to iOS7 style but the functionalities are the same,” he adds.

This is not the first, nor the last Mac OS concept to hit the web, but OS X will most likely look a lot like this one day.

Apple has been heavily rumored to attempt a unification of its two operating systems that power iPhones and iPads on one side, and MacBooks and iMacs on the other.

The move is logical, and the first steps towards this integration of apps and services have been taken a long time ago. Each year Apple makes yet another move in that direction, and in 2014 the fruits could be ripe for the picking.

Some analysts have said that it won’t be long before traditional PCs are completely phased out by tablet computers, which would make it imperative for all OSes, not just Apple’s, to embody both touch-centric controls and keyboard input.

Having already made efforts in this direction, it’s only natural that Apple will be among the pioneers of this revolution. No wonder designers are churning out new concepts every week. Who’s to say Apple doesn’t give one of these guys a call some day?
