A brand new and quite big patch for Counter-Strike: Global Offensive has just been released by Valve, bringing forth a suite of changes to the movement system, as well as ending Operation Breakout and implementing plenty of other tweaks to SMGs and more.

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive celebrated its two-year anniversary back in August, and thanks to Valve's continued support, the multiplayer-only first-person shooter is enjoying a lot of popularity amongst players and those who just want to watch professional eSports competitions.

A new patch is available for download

After rolling out a smaller update earlier this week, a fresh patch is now available for Global Offensive, via Valve's Steam service, according to the official website.

Included in the new update are tweaks to the matchmaking and movement systems, as well as improvements to the user interface, the SDK used by map makers in the community, and more.

The movement system has been overhauled

By far the biggest changes relate to the movement system, dealing not only with how players move around a map, but also with how they behave when getting hit by enemies or by grenades. More specifically, the tagging system (when a player hits another with bullets) has been changed, as players should see a progression in terms of the slowing effect dealt by the actual projectiles.

Instead of slowing down instantly when a bullet hits, players will gradually slow down depending on how many times they're hit and in what regions of the body. The currently held weapon also determines the rate of the slow effect. In order to help players see how much a weapon affects their movement, the buy menu has seen its Movement rating renamed to Mobility. Guns with high mobility allow players to slow down less when hit.

Grenades also deal a slowing effect, and if they hit a player before exploding, they'll also deal a slight amount of impact damage. Meanwhile, all sub-machine guns (SMGs) now have an extra 20% armor penetration, which should make them more attractive to players strapped for cash.

Matchmaking has also been tweaked

The new CS:GO patch also brings a few tweaks to the matchmaking system, fixing some of the bugs that appeared earlier this week and allowing players on the same local area network as a community game server to connect to it directly using the internal LAN IP address.

Last but not least, the update also brings the end for Operation Breakout, the special in-game event that highlighted new maps made by the community and brought forth missions and other activities for players.

The new CS:GO update is already available for download via Steam and weighs in at around 18.5MB. You can check out the full changelog below.
