Parents of toddlers and pre-teens are the targeted consumers

We continue to believe that children under a certain age should spend time exploring their surroundings and performing social interactions instead of playing on tablets.

For US citizens who don't share this opinion though, French company Lexibook is getting ready to ship the Lexibook tablet.

Powered by a 600 MHz processor, the slate uses 256 MB of RAM, 4 GB of NAND Flash storage (16 GB with a microSD card) and Wi-Fi.

Basically, it is a 7-inch tablet featuring the bare minimum hardware support, enough for toddler and pre-teen-centric apps and games.

A camera and photo editing software are part of the feature set as well, as well as 200 e-books and other small programs, although it is debatable if children will find and/or maintain interest in such things.

The item in the UK is loaded with Android 2.2 Froyo and costs £150 / $237 / €189. Buyers should keep in mind that there is nothing rugged about it, so their children could damage without too much effort it if they decided to play catch or bash the wall with it.
