Remove application icon bouncing

Ever found that applications bouncing on your dock become annoying at a point? There are times when you need this kind of notification from Mac OS X, but more often are the times when you don't need the distraction.

An application like Dock Detox can eliminate this hassle for good. Dock Detox is a “haxie” able to remove application icon bouncing in the Dock, says Unsanity. While Mac OS X allows users to turn off the application launch bouncing, this doesn't apply when a particular app needs your attention. Sure, this might not be the best choice for the casual user, but more experienced users could do without this feature.

Last updated March 8, 2004, Dock Detox isn't by far a new name in the sea of Mac apps available today, but it's good to throw in reminders like these every once in a while. The latest release (version 1.2), updated Dock Detox for Mac OS X 10.3 "Panther", and for Application Enhancer 1.4.1. Dock Detox is only loaded for applications you provide in the APE Manager preference pane. You can select the applications you wish it to affect in the APE Manager preference pane using its Include List, and it will suppress bouncing icons in the Dock, when they ask for your attention.

Application Enhancer is a combination of a Framework and a system daemon, which performs its task by loading plugins (Application Enhancer modules) containing executable code into the running applications. Once loaded, the APE module performs the needed modifications (such as redefining the minimize window action, or customizing the standard Apple menu) on the launched application memory space, never touching any files on disk. It uses a set of functions defined in the Application Enhancer framework. Thus, the Application Enhancer daemon (aped) is used to help the APE modules get loaded into newly launched apps.

NOTE: Dock Detox does not affect the "Animate opening applications" option in the Dock Preferences pane, this being one of the known issues. Also, if you're interested in downloading and using this app, another free product by Unsanity is required to make it work. That products is Application Enhancer. Lastly, Dock Detox is not yet compatible with Intel-based Macs.
