Freeverse has released Tranquility for the iPhone and iPod touch. The application is the first of its kind to hit the iTunes App Store, offering relaxing environmental sounds aimed at eliminating stress. Sounds are professionally recorded, while the app also includes a full 60-minute relaxation and meditation track called “A Journey Within”.

Freeverse is a company mostly known for
developing and publishing Mac games. While it strives to develop and publish seamless software, it has a particular focus on the Mac OS and the Xbox 360. This, however, hasn't stopped them from tapping the iPhone platform as well. It is not the first time they have done it, and it will certainly not be the last.

“Tranquility is the perfect tool to gently put you on the right course for a relaxing nap or invigorating meditation,” the company says on its web site. “Allow this soothing application to lull you to a state of bliss with high-quality professionally designed audio tracks and inspiring visuals [...] Steep a relaxing cup of tea, put your feet up, and drown out the day’s worries with the faint sounds of a rain storm hitting a windowsill, or ocean waves crashing against the repelling surf [...] Whatever your pleasure, Tranquility can get you there.”

Users can set the timer to listen until they fall asleep, or let the sounds play as they dream with their eyes open. Changing the ambiance is always just a flick away, while custom-length sound tracks are also available. Other features include dynamic-range inspiring visuals, endless loop mode, touch-and-swipe controls and the above-mentioned 60-minute relaxation and mediation track as a bonus. The simple, minimalist interface rounds up the features list.

As far as themes go, users can choose from a total of seven aural landscapes. Those include Zen Meditation, Flowing Water, Ocean Waves, White Noise, Rain, Thunderstorms, Mechanical Hums.

This is not all! According to Freeverse, Tranquility hides “a few surprises,” undisclosed in the iTunes App Store description. Why don't you get the app to find out what those are?

Tranquility is available for purchase on the Apple App Store here. The application costs just US$0.99. A demonstration video of the app in action is available over at Freeverse's site.
