Last week, a group of hackers calling themselves the UChicago Electronic Army hacked and defaced the website of Freenters, a company that provides free printing services for students. The website has been taken offline following the breach.

Shortly after the attack, Freenters published a statement on Facebook, assuring customers that their personal information had not been compromised.

However, according to The Chicago Maroon, the hackers sent out emails to over 3,000 Freenters customers with a link to a file containing their personal details, including password hashes. Furthermore, the link to the stolen information was also posted on the defacement page.

In a second statement posted on Facebook, the company admitted that names, email addresses, birth dates, password hashes, and other data had been obtained by the attackers.

Freenters claims it has deleted all customer accounts from its systems, and advises customers to change their passwords.

This is a good piece of advice, since the password hashes are reportedly easy to decrypt.
