FreedomVOICE Systems has released the beta version of its upcoming
iPhone app, Newber. The application is the first location-aware business number, according to an official report issued yesterday by FreedomVOICE Systems. The Newber application is installed and launched on a person's iPhone to become a fully functional second line, which uses positioning technology to locate and seamlessly transfer calls to nearby landlines.
Newber Beta’s location-awareness corrects longstanding flaws of more primitive moveable numbers, by enabling the easy transfer of mobile calls to a desired landline. This works even during an in-progress call,
FreedomVOICE claims. Newber eliminates the need for the caller to dial multiple numbers for mobile, home, work, etc, by delivering an independent number that can be assigned to any phone. Newber Beta also allows a person to take business calls on their private phone without giving out personal information, according to FreedomVOICE Systems.
Using the “Contact Finder,” to which FreedomVOICE refers as “a highly anticipated capability of the commercial release,” a Newber user will be able to simply tap a name on the contact list and all of that contact’s numbers will be automatically dialed in sequence. So, no more manual dialing one number after another.
“Newber Beta is the first moveable number that utilizes iPhone’s own location awareness,” explained Eric Thomas, founder and CEO of FreedomVOICE. “Just touch the keypad once or twice and Newber calls are automatically moved to the nearest landline. It’s that easy.”
“Other so-called moveable numbers need a computer or require clumsy commands to switch phones,” Mr. Thomas continued. “Since Newber Beta uses iPhone’s own GPS system to connect to nearby phones, it is the first moveable number that’s practical and convenient [...] Plans are in the works to introduce Newber for other mobile smart phones,” Thomas added. “Newber is making business calls simple again.”
Newber is currently available for free, but only to members of the media, while the number of invites is limited. The fully-featured commercial version of Newber will be made available to iPhone users through the iTunes App Store soon, says the company.
