Freed-Hardeman University (FHU) has selected the Desktone’s Cloud product for its virtual desktop environment, after learning that iPads and MacBooks offer the best in all worlds, including Windows offerings, by means of creating a virtual desktop infrastructure.

The University, a private Tennessee-based institution that provides graduate and undergraduate programs to about 2,000 students, has embodied Desktone Cloud to achieve a complete, cost-effective desktop experience for staff and students on iPads, MacBooks and other endpoint devices.

Commenting on the initiative, Greg Maples, Director of Network Operations, FHU said, “We wanted to take advantage of the flexibility and savings that virtual desktop infrastructure promises, but after examining the total cost of ownership for building and maintaining on-premise VDI, we simply couldn’t justify it.”

“The Desktone Cloud is the only solution that enables us to get all the benefits of VDI without the costs and complexity of an internal deployment—and with a TCO that is very easy to justify,” said Maples

“Like many universities, we’re also heavy users of iPads and MacBooks, and we really liked that we could use the Desktone Cloud to provision Windows 7 desktops to all of our devices,” he revealed.

The Desktone Cloud is said to be the industry’s only purpose-built product for delivering virtual desktops in the cloud.

The company pioneered the concept and now offers Desktone Cloud, an affordable solution that delivers pretty much all of the benefits of virtualized desktops.

Enterprises are said to benefit the most from Desktone Cloud, as it enables rapid provisioning of desktops to users connected on any device, without the upfront costs and complexity of traditional desktop virtualization.
