Freecom, one of the world's leading vendors of external storage solutions, has decided to up the ante with the introduction of a new external storage solution that will provide customers with a choice for a USB 3.0-based product. Capable of delivering transfer speeds of approximately 130MB/s, the new SuperSpeed USB connection allows
users to back up data faster than before. In addition, according to Freecom, the new Hard Drive XS 3.0 is the smallest 3.5-inch desktop hard drive that is currently available on the market, providing a choice for a compact and portable, high-capacity storage solution.

“The rapid transfer speeds of USB 3.0 are going to make sharing information easier than ever before, and with the rise of interactive web applications and new media showing no signs of slowing, it’s arrived just in time,” said Axel Lucassen, managing director. “From downloaded TV programmes to digital photos and music, data-rich files are abundant both at home and in the office. The Hard Drive XS 3.0 is the first drive in the world to enable users to back up even the biggest files at unprecedented speeds, combining the latest technology with style and practicality to bring a new breed of hard drive to an increasingly demanding market.”

Freecom's new Hard Drive XS 3.0 external hard drive is compatible with the previous generation of USB 2.0 interface, enabling users to take full advantage of its features and large capacity. According to the company, the drive is available in a range of capacities of up to 2TB of storage space, in a compact and high-speed solution. In addition, the drive also features a sleek exterior design, developed in collaboration with Belgian designer Sylvian Willenz, and features a rubbed enclosure that ensures a better grip and reduced vibration, according to the company.

The Hard Drive XS 3.0 will be available in Europe, starting mid-November, in capacities of 1TB, 1.5TB and 2TB, at prices of EUR 119, for the 1TB model.

Nothing to see here. The throughput of this drive is easily half of a SATA hard drive inside your computer. This drive offers nowhere near the capability of full USB 3.0. Purely marketing hype. Nice try, though. You might want to wait until a real USB 3.0 drive comes to market before parting with your dough.
