It will be, most likely, the only Beta version before a RC

The first Beta release of the upcoming FreeBSD operating system has been announced earlier today and it is now available for download and testing.

The developers of FreeBSD stated in the release announcement that this should be the only Beta release before the Release Candidate version of FreeBSD 9.1 is available for download.

If users were to use csup/cvsup mechanisms to do a source-based update of an existing system, the branch tag to use would be "RELENG_9".

If users would use SVN instead, it would definitely be "stable/9". Note that if you do an update that way, the system will call itself "9.1-PRERELEASE".

Download FreeBSD 9.1 Beta 1 right now from Softpedia. Remember that this is a beta release and it should NOT be installed on production machines. It is intended to be used for testing purposes only.
