FreeBSD 10.0 RC5, an operating system for x86, ARM, IA-64, PowerPC, PC-98, and UltraSPARC architectures, is now available for download and testing.

The developers didn’t intend to release another Release Candidate before the final version, but some fixes were needed and another RC is now available for testing

The developers advise users that, on systems running FreeBSD 10.0 BETA1 (and only systems running 10.0 BETA1), they have to run the following command before using freebsd-update:

sed -i '' -e 's/%@/%~@/' /usr/sbin/freebsd-update

According to the changelog, an IPv4 multicast regression has been fixed, various OpenSSL vulnerabilities have been fixed, a change to the kinfo_file structure has been reverted in order to preserve the ABI, and a race condition which could prevent the file descriptor table from being properly updated has been fixed.

The official changelog comes with a complete list of instructions. Download FreeBSD 10.0 RC5 right now from Softpedia.

Remember that this is a development release and it should NOT be installed on production machines. It is intended to be used for testing purposes only.
