Wargaming.net, a company that develops and publishes its own titles, has announced that World of Tanks, the MMO that it has built around tank battles, based upon those seen in the Second World War, is set to be officially launched in both Europe and in North America on April 12.

World of Tanks has been in a long beta stage in the last few months, with the developers relying on player participation and input to balance the experience and to make sure that all the underlying mechanics of the MMO are sound.

The game is free to play and requires the gamer to download a client in order to log into official servers and get into the action.

There are more than 100 tanks available to use, all of them based upon models that have been in use during World War II, with the nations represented including Germany, the Soviet Union and the United States of America.

Each tank model can be customized with a number of systems, from better guns to more resistant armor, and even tank crew members gain experience and become more capable as they survive more battles.

Development on the game was done at a Wargaming.net studion in Belarus and the team will continue working after the official launch, adding more content and eliminating any bugs that appear.

Victor Kislyi, who is the chief executive officer of Wargaming.net, says, “Our team has been working really hard to create a unique blend of action, strategy, simulation and RPG elements in World Of Tanks, and now the moment all fans across the globe have been waiting for is right around the corner.”

I've played some World of Tanks during the beta phase and the game looked pretty polished and very much bug free.

The battlefield experience can be frantic at times and a good balance of tanks is crucial for any team that is striving for victory.
