A digital magazine that learns what you like and offers custom topics that you can read every day for free is now available from AOL, the American global Internet services and media company.

Editions is described as “a beautiful, new, daily magazine that reads you.” It’s an iPad-exclusive app that users can download free of charge from the App Store for a unique reading experience customized for each individual user.

In addition to serving trending topics, Editions also surfaces top news to ensure readers are also getting important information, not just for fun.

Every article is served based on a sophisticated set of algorithms that takes all of the user’s actions into account, from opening an article to adding a new interest.

The app leverages these algorithms to learn what the user does, what he / she likes or doesn’t like, and so forth – thus creating a truly customized reading experience for each individual user.

“Our goal for Editions was to take the best of the online and offline reading experiences and fuse them into a single, sleek magazine unlike anything else that exists today,” said David Temkin, head of Mobile, AOL.

“By combining custom features with technology that learns about you as you use it, Editions delivers a magazine every day that’s full of the things you care about most.”

The app is automatically updated on a daily basis. Users receive a unique 30- to 40-page magazine tailored to their interests every other morning.

Users not only have the ability to consume brand new content every day, they can also save the content for later viewing.

Other key features of Editions by AOL include: 15 topic sections to choose from (including Design, Tech, Business, Family, Health & Fitness, Sports, Entertainment and Travel); the ability to edit each section to include your favorite companies, teams, celebrities, sources etc.; localized news and weather; a built-in calendar that syncs with Facebook and iCal to display important events; adjustable font sizes and color options. The app is available in the U.S. only for now and requires an iPad running iOS 4.0 or later.
