Frontier Silicon and GEAR4 have announced their partnership to release an iOS app to enable the remote control of a wide range of features contained in the HouseParty Airwave.

In addition to operating as an iPhone/iPod dock, the HouseParty AirWave is a fully featured digital radio and wireless network streaming device, the two companies revealed in a press release.

It can wirelessly access over 11,000 live internet radio stations and podcasts from round the world while a UPnP network playback feature allows the user to wirelessly playback music from a server on their home network.

The AirWave allegedly offers crystal clear DAB reception with DLS messages displayed on the unit’s clear white on blue 128x64 pixel display.

The HouseParty AirWave can now be used with the Gear4 AirWave app to give full control of all these features, the two companies said.

The App allows the user to tune the radio (internet, DAB or FM), browse their home MP3 collection, see album art and select music to listen to on the HouseParty AirWave from the comfort of an armchair, all by accessing the HouseParty AirWave via WiFi.

Key features of the GEAR4 HouseParty AirWave product include:

Free App-based remote control – Simply remove your iPhone / iPod touch from the dock to use as a remote control

“We are extremely excited about this new innovative product which features a Frontier Silicon based internet radio module working in conjunction with the free AirWave iPhone App,” said Tom Old, managing director at GEAR4

“Our partnership with Frontier has meant we can provide an easy to use App to our customers to enable them to not only have the ability to dock their iPhone or iPod Touch in the AirWave unit but also control the various features from their Apple device,” added Old.

“Our long standing relationship with GEAR4 means that we can work closely with them to develop not only world class digital radio modules but also take advantage of the latest trends in technology such as the use of Apps to control networked consumer products,” said Steve Evans, VP Marketing and Business Development, Frontier Silicon.
