A clever campaign that's meant to earn crooks tons of money

These days Facebook walls are flooded with a message that claims Walgreens is offering free gift cads to 10,000 members.

In reality, this is nothing more than a classic scam that leads to a survey site which pays the cybercrooks for each visitor they redirect.

The clever part about this scheme is that the website that hides behind the Facebook page displays a counter which shows how the number of remaining gift cards drops. This is a tactic to make victims click on the links without giving it a second thought.

Walgreens didn’t mention anything about the scam on their website or on the company’s Facebook page, but social media customers are advised to stay clear of any similar advertisements.

If your wall already displays the hoax, make sure to delete it before others see it. A few thousand people already fell for it.
