Unity Technologies, the creators of the game engine, and Microsoft announce that they are collaborating in order to make development tools for the Xbox One home console free for all developers who are interested in using them.

The engine will introduce support for Kinect recognition, multiplayer matchmaking, cloud computing and SmartGlass use.

Those developers who agree for their titles to be published by Microsoft Game Studios will get access to Unity for Xbox One for free.

Steven Guggenheimer, vice president at Microsoft, states, “With Unity’s commitment to support Windows 8, Windows Phone 8, Xbox One and Xbox 360, Microsoft’s gaming ecosystem will benefit from the wealth of ideas and imagination flowing from the Unity games development community.”

An important number of Kickstarter titles and indie projects are using Unity as their core engine and the deal with Microsoft might mean that more such video game experiences will be launched on the Xbox One.
