Free Toy Story 3 App Now in the App Store

Disney Interactive has announced Toy Story 3 for the iPhone, iPod touch and iPad, an app that lets fans play, personalize and follow their favorite Toy Story characters in their adventures. Users get both free and premium content that can be purchased within the app (ranging in price from $.99 to $3.99) in what is Disney’s first franchise portal on the iPhone. Disney also updated the Toy Story Mania! app to include a new Pin-collecting feature, the company announced today.

Content available at launch includes Woody’s Wild Ride! ($3.99), which allows users to “play as Woody as he and his trusty horse Bullseye ride through the Wild West!” Players collect items with the character’s lasso, while dodging obstacles, and unlocking achievements, according to Disney.

Those eager to grab something for free before deciding to spend money on Toy Story 3 for iPhone can go for Woody’s Greeting, a feature that allows them to send a message to their “favorite cowboy or cowgirl from your pal Woody!” To create a custom greeting, there is an option to choose from a list of names, occasions, hobbies, and more.

Operation Camouflage, a hidden-object style game, costs $2.99 and has players finding items camouflaged throughout Andy’s Room, Bonnie’s Room and Sunnyside Daycare. Finally, Sound Around ($.99) allows them to listen to Buzz and Woody’s classic phrases, and toy sound effects from Andy’s room in the Toy Story movies, according to the app’s iTunes description.

“Toy Story 3” is the first Disney app to feature a collectability component where users are rewarded for exploring, playing and purchasing new apps with collectable, Toy Story-themed, virtual Pins. The app also features cross-over with the Mac version of Toy Story 3: The Video Game in which players can use the “Toy Story 3” app on their iPhone or iPod touch to control their gaming experience. Disney also plans to update the app with new features throughout 2010 and beyond.

“The success of the ‘Toy Story’ franchise and its massive following really lent itself to creating an experience on the iPhone that extends well beyond just a single game tied to the movie release,” Stephen Saiz, director of marketing, Disney Interactive Studios, stated. “We want fans to have the opportunity to experience the beloved Toy Story characters through games, sounds and personalization timed with the movie launch and beyond.”

Toy Story 3 requires an iPhone, iPod touch or iPad and iOS 3.0 or later.
