When you use your web browser to access Yahoo! Mail accounts, you go through many browser windows and repeated refreshes. If you want to feel the comfort of your Windows desktop when you read or send emails, YPOPs! application offers a free and rapid solution to manage a Yahoo! Mail account directly from a POP3 email client.
YPOPs! plays the role of a "buffer" between your email client and
Yahoo mail server, by providing POP3 / SMTP server emulation and at the same time a HTTP client.
This application is available on Windows and Linux, but the C source code could be ported to other operating systems. In order to send or receive email on Windows using your favorite email client, first you must download, install and configure the YPOPs! application for the Windows operating system.
From the YPOPs! configuration window, you will be able to modify various settings, such as receiving email options, network properties, proxies values, yahoo domain name and more. You can download email from any folder, but it's recommended to uncheck the bulk mail folder for security reasons. You can also specify the maximum number of emails to download per pass. Network settings should be left as default (IP Address 127.0.0.1, POP3 Port:110 and SMTP Port:25) and SMTP enabled, if you want to send email through your Yahoo! Mail account. HTTP proxies must be specified if you connect to the Internet via a proxy server.
Then an email client must be configured to allow you to receive and send email from your Windows desktop. In the case of Outlook Express, the procedure is simple and can be repeated also for other email clients, such as Eudora, Netscape Mail, Mozilla Thunderbird and more. In Outlook Express 6.0, select Tools-Accounts-ADD. The wizard will request you some data. You must provide your full name and Yahoo! mail address.
Then you must specify the Email Server Names, when server type is POP3 and 127.0.0.1 value must be set for Incoming / Outgoing mail fields. Finally, select the account you just created, then Properties - Servers and for Incoming and Outgoing Mail Server type your Yahoo! email name (for example test@yahoo.com) and password. Don't forget to check your email client network connection.
From now on, you will be able to check, receive, send and organize emails from Yahoo! Mail account using Outlook Express, which is a very popular client on Windows platform. You will discover many advantages of this alternative to manage your emails from Yahoo! mail account directly from Windows desktop.
