iOS developer Silvio Rizzi is reminding RSS fans that Google Reader will be closed on July 1, along with issuing an exciting announcement that his Reeder iPhone app has become the first third-party sync service as an alternative to Google Reader.

Reeder 3.1 for iPhone brings local/standalone RSS support, which means you now can use Reeder as a standalone reader (no syncing required). Other changes include the ability to pull-to-refresh and several bug fixes.

On iPad, Reeder version 1.5.7 simply fixes a crash when opening the article list of certain feeds.

Reeder for iPad now requires at least iOS 4.3 and Reeder for iPhone needs iOS 5.1 to run. All iDevices are supported natively by the news app.
