Christmas might be long gone, but this is no reason not be in a giving mood and gift people with free public transportation, officials in Paris seem to think.

Not to beat about the bush, media reports say that folks in said city in France can now travel with a means of public transportation of their choice free of charge.

According to The Local, the measure is intended to help curb local air pollution in this urban area, and will only be in place starting this week's Friday until this coming Sunday night.

The same source tells us that Paris has been under maximum pollution alert for several days now, and that the officials who decided to make public transport free expect that this will encourage people to leave their cars at home.

The goal is to reduce traffic-related emissions, and make the air in the French capital at least a tad more breathable than it currently is.

Apart from making public transport free of charge, officials in this urban area have also agreed to allow people to use rental bikes and rental electric cars at no cost.

As is the case with buses and the like, the rental bikes and electric vehicles can be used free of charge starting this Friday and up until the end of the week.
