Anti-piracy blasts P2P

Peer-to-peer has been used by crackers and pirates for a lot of time now, to spread copyrighted material and cracked software. Free porn, MP3s, movies of any type, seasons of The Simpsons, illegal versions of Kaspersky, Windows boot CD images, and basically anything you want, you can get it from a P2P network. However, things are starting to look differently, at least in Germany? 7 of eDonkey's servers have been shut down as they were being used to illegally distribute copyrighted material. It was all going well for the bad guys, until IFPI (International Federation of the Pornographic Industry) got on the line. These guys are getting more and more serious about protecting their material, since the porn industry might face serious issues, with people downloading free porn from the web, instead of purchasing DVDs.

As seen on WebUser, Jo Oliver, head of litigation at IFPI, said: "eDonkey servers drive a large amount of illegal traffic on the file-sharing network. They are run by individuals who are deliberately and flagrantly violating the rights of artists and record companies." These guys (the IFPI) are fighting the good fight and also state that they have been successful, as until now they have seen eDonkey's user base reduced by more than a million, due to their actions.

As much as free porn going down may pain some people, they need to understand that illegally downloading movies from the Web can have serious consequences. And I'm not talking just about porn here, when you download a film or an MP3, or any other copyrighted material from the Web, without paying for it, you're actually hurting the artists that you love so much. It's the artists' right to get paid for what they do and what you enjoy, so getting their material for free is like stealing money from them. Take this into consideration and say "NO" to piracy!
