America Online has announced through a press release that it will debut a new service come September 2006 as an integer part of the company's array of free services. My eAddress will be made available
under a new pricing policy introduced by AOL, delivering personalized email addresses via .com or .net domains. Premiering free personalized email domains under the umbrella of a free of charge market strategy is consistent with the company's shift toward advertising based revenue in comparison to its former subscription policy that was discarded. Through My eAddress domain customized as an email address, AOL will provide additional support for its AIM solution while delivering advanced access to the AOL network and to a future service involving personalized Web pages on the free AIM Pages social networking service.
"AOL is about to make online communications more personal than ever before," said Roy Ben-Yoseph, Director of Communication Products, AOL. "The most popular Internet activity is email, yet many people don't have an online identity that's truly personal and meaningful to them. Starting next month, with the launch of its My eAddress service, AOL will make personalized email domains available to all online users at absolutely no cost. Not only can people customize an email address with their own personal domain and connect up to 100 other identities, giving families, teams, social organizations and small businesses a new way to represent themselves, but they'll also be able to use it for instant messaging and as a Web page address. This is an opportunity that millions of people have been waiting for, and AOL is thrilled to be the first to provide it."
Complementing AOL.com and AIM.com Mail products, the free Web-based My eAddress email service will permit each domain to hold 100 additional email identities that will make use of 2GB of storage space while under the protection of in-house security products.
