Payday 2 has just received yet another free downloadable content pack, as developer Overkill Software has rolled out the Death Wish DLC for the cooperative heist game, bringing new enemies, an even tougher difficulty level, not to mention fresh masks, a melee weapon, and achievements.

Payday 2 was launched last year for the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 platforms, but Overkill Software found one of the largest followings on the PC, where it released quite a lot of themed updates, changed plenty of the in-game mechanics, and generally made sure that players had a great time while pulling off heists alongside friends.

Even so, after quite some time with the game, some players became bored, even on the highest Overkill difficulty setting.

For them, the Swedish developer has just rolled out a free DLC called Death Wish, which should prove to be the toughest challenge yet for veteran players.

First up, the free update for the game will add, like its name suggests, a Death Wish difficulty option, which sits higher than Overkill.

The difficulty mode doesn't just alter the way enemies behave or how many bullets they can receive before going down. It also changes the structures of heists and their actual layouts.

"The Death Wish update is the second late-game update for Payday 2. It allows players to explore the new Death Wish difficulty for every heist available. No one knows how the Death Wish difficulty alters a heist – bridges that were whole can now destroyed and skylights in building roofs can suddenly appear. Also, if we were you we'd be careful to use the wrong ingredients while cooking meth," the studio said on Steam.

Besides facing off against the regular array of foes, which were already quite a challenge on Overkill, players will also have to defeat the Elite Bulldozer heavy soldier, who wields an impressive light machine gun, not to mention the GENSEC Elite SWAT team, which is also equipped with better weapons.

Overkill Software also added fresh rewards for fans in the free update, starting with some great masks that can be earned once a player completes all heists on hard, very hard, Overkill, and Death Wish.

As a token of gratitude for the 350,000 community members on the Payday 2 Steam group, a special melee weapon called the 350K brass knuckle is also included in the DLC.

Achievement hunters should also download this new update, as it adds 35 new challenges to the game.

In celebration of the Payday 2 Death Wish DLC, which is free for all owners, Overkill is also running a sale on the premium add-ons for the game, like the Gage Weapon Pack, until March 2.
