Free Office 2010 in the Cloud (Office Web Apps) Guide

A free resource available for download from Microsoft is designed to provide guidance for the Cloud components of the Office 2010 productivity suite.

The Guide for IT Pros for Microsoft Office Web Apps is now live on the Microsoft Download Center, and as the label implies, the guide is tailored to IT professionals.

Essentially, the resource is focused on one aspect of Office Web Apps, namely the on-premise deployment available to volume licensing customers for introduction on top of Microsoft SharePoint 2010 Products in their organization.

The latest iteration of the guide is designed to allow IT pros to get familiarized with the final version of Office Web Apps.
 
Back in April 2010, the software giant made available for download a version of the resource that dealt with Office Web Apps on-premises deployments involving the Beta Build of the solution.

“Business customers licensed for Microsoft Office 2010 through a Volume Licensing program can run Office Web Apps on a server that runs Microsoft SharePoint Foundation 2010 or Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010.”

“Information in this article relates to an on-premises Office Web Apps solution with SharePoint 2010 Products,” reads an excerpt from the guide.

Of course, as users are undoubtedly well aware, there is another version of Office Web Apps available to customers via Windows Live SkyDrive.

The free Office Web Apps service integrated into SkyDrive is recommended to end users and small businesses, according to Microsoft.

“Office Web Apps is tightly integrated with SharePoint 2010 Products. When you install Office Web Apps, the Office Web Apps Services are added to the list of SharePoint Services and the Office Web Apps Feature is added to the available SharePoint Features,” Microsoft noted.

“Office Web Apps services include the Word Viewing Service, PowerPoint Service, and Excel Calculation Services that are created and run within the context of SharePoint Services.

“The Office Web Apps Feature and services integrate with SharePoint's robust enterprise content management capabilities to provide users the ability to access and work on your organization's documents from anywhere using a Web browser,” the company added.
