Michael Tremer, a developer for the ipfire.org team, has announced that IPFire 2.13 Core 81, a new stable build of the popular Linux-based firewall distribution, is available, bringing quite a few security fixes.

Unlike the previous IPFire release, which was quite substantial, the new version is just a maintenance one. Nonetheless, nine different vulnerabilities have been covered with this new upgrade.

“This is the official release announcement for IPFire 2.15 – Core Update 81 comes with fixes for nine security vulnerabilities in the OpenSSL library and some other smaller bugfixes. We recommend to install this update as soon as possible and reboot your systems,” note the developers.

According to the changelog, the firewall has been extended to detect more types of port scans over the TCP protocol, the new dynamic DNS updater introduced in the previous release has been refined, and lzo has been downgraded to version 2.06

IPFire is a modular Linux distribution, which means that it can be deployed as a firewall, a proxy server, or a VPN gateway, and the Tor add-on has been updated to version 0.2.4.23.

The developers recommend all users of IPFire to upgrade their distributions. More details can be found on the official website. You can download IPFire 2.13 Core 81 right now from Softpedia.
