14 DAY TRIAL // Hulu Plus, a subscription based, iOS-version of Hulu’s service is now available for free download from the iTunes App Store. The Hulu Plus application is capable of streaming hundreds of current and classic TV shows to any iOS device. Subscription costs $9.99 a month.
“Stream thousands of episodes from hundreds of current and classic TV shows to your iPad, iPhone 3GS iPhone 4, 3rd generation iPod Touch, computer, TV, and other devices with a Hulu Plus subscription”, Hulu LLC says in the app’s iTunes description. The application permits users to watch every current season episode of top TV shows from ABC, Fox, and NBC. Titles emphasized by the developers include Family Guy, Modern Family, Glee, 30 Rock, Saturday Night Live, The Office, The Simpsons, Grey’s Anatomy, and more.
According to the app’s makers, Hulu Plus is also a great way to enjoy full series runs or back seasons of classic shows like The X-Files, Arrested Development, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Desperate Housewives, Roswell, Miami Vice, Angel, Saturday Night Live, Law and Order: SVU, Ally McBeal, Xena, Quantum Leap, My So-Called Life, and more. The app outputs video at 720p HD resolution with multi bitrate support, although this will only be observable on the iPad. Other features are listed as follows:
• Search and browse for shows and videos directly from your iPad, iPhone, and iPod Touch. • Resume play from where you left off on other Hulu Plus devices including your computer and select mobile phones, internet-connected TVs, and Blu-ray players. • Manage your queue directly from your iPad, iPhone, and iPod Touch. • Watch over WiFi and 3G (on your iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, and 3G iPads).
All these features are packaged inside Hulu Plus, a freely downloadable application which requires its user to pay 10 bucks a month if they want to use it at all. Fortunately, users can request an invitation to preview the Hulu Plus subscription service at http://www.hulu.com/plus. It goes without saying that a free, limited version of Hulu for iOS would have been more than welcome.
