You know that Microsoft promised us some new Gears of War content, and now its time for them to keep their word. So, two new maps will be available on January 11, two new free maps. This time, it will not be available for US residents only, but it will be a global release. Along with the two maps, an introductory video will also be available for download, starring your favorite game developer and mine, Cliffy B.

According to Joystiq, the new maps are called Old Bones and Raven Down:

"Raven Down: A Raven Helicopter has gone down in the middle of a large scale battle with the omnipresent Locust Horde. Gears have taken out the Seeder and gamers join Delta Forces moving into the crash site from all angles to search for survivors.

Old Bones: In an attempt to eradicate any traces of human history and culture, the Locust Horde has emerged under Sera's Capitaline Museums and has begun to destroy them brick by brick. Each gamer's mission is to help the Delta Force recapture the museums before all remnants of humankind's existence are obliterated."

On top of this, the Discovery Channel will be giving away two million Microsoft points for gamers to use on Xbox Live. If you are curios how to get a piece of the action, you can visit this site but not right now, because the website won't go online until the 13th of January and you'll find only commercials, the site being parked at the moment .

This is not a bad move on behalf of Epic and Microsoft, considering that most Gears of War players are already sick and tired with the current maps. This will give them another excuse to play GoW all day long...
