Instead of GTA V, users are served a worthless application

Users who visit download-apps(dot)org/gta-v(dot)html are promised a free GTA V download. Of course, since the PC version of the game is not out yet, the website is simply part of a scam designed to trick users into installing all sorts of shady software.

The website even displays system requirements to make everything more legitimate-looking. However, the software that’s offered to users is a simple app that provides information and media related to GTA V.

According to ThreatTrack Security experts, the fact that there is no free GTA V is not the worst of it. Users who install the so-called GTA V can end up installing all sorts of third-party software such as Severe Weather Alerts, BrowserSafeGuard, PriceGong and PC Speed Up.

Software that’s bundled with other applications is usually designed to hijack your browser’s search engine and home page.

Users are advised to avoid installing such programs not only because they can slow down a computer’s performance, but also because they can open doors to even more malicious elements.
