Panda Security is offering twenty free licence keys for the PRO edition of its Cloud Antivirus product if Spain wins the World Cup 2010. The Spanish antivirus vendor is hoping to get more people to support Spain's soccer team in the upcoming final game.
The FIFA World Cup is already the most widely watched sporting event in the world. But, the 2010 edition, which has reached its final stage, has all chances of becoming the most-watched TV event in history, with an expected aggregated audience of over 26 billion viewers. The final game, which will decide the new world champions will take place on 11 July 2010 at Soccer City stadium in Johannesburg, South Africa, between Netherlands and Spain.
There is currently a trend amongst companies to offer free stuff to customers in order to show their support for one side or the other. Panda Security, a provider of security solutions for both home and corporate consumers, which is based in Bilbao, Spain has decided to jump on the World Cup final bandwagon and give out 20 free licenses for Cloud Antivirus PRO Edition.
The offer is valid only if Spain wins the World Cup and in order to qualify, people need to send an email to Panda's Senior Research Advisor Pedro Bustamante at pendro.bustamante [at] pandasecurity.com. The first twenty senders will receive a Cloud Antivirus PRO license key that will be valid for one year.
“At the very least we’ll get more people cheering for Spain,” Mr. Bustamante writes in the
announcement posted on the Panda Cloud Antivirus blog. According to him, the idea for this promotion came from users who suggested it on the product's support forum.
Panda Cloud Antivirus is a security product which leverages new server-assisted malware detection technology to increase incident response times and drastically reduce system resource consumption. In addition to the cloud-based detection, the product also has several offline protection layers.
The most significant differences between the free and commercial (PRO) versions, is that the PRO edition also comes with a host intrusion prevention system (HIPS), capable of analyzing the behavior of applications at runtime and killing their process if malicious actions are attempted. This variant also allows users to “vaccinate” secure any USB decvice inserted into the computer, against future malware infections.
