Activision and Sony have confirmed that Call of Duty: Ghosts will get a free multiplayer demo this weekend, allowing PS3 and PS4 owners worldwide to try out the game's online mode for free, having access to three maps, three game types, and the Extinction co-op experience.

Call of Duty: Ghosts has received a variety of different enhancements since its release, coming in the form of free updates but also different downloadable add-ons, ranging from personalization items to DLC map packs that brought fresh levels to the multiplayer.

After giving PS3 and PS4 owners a chance to try out the Onslaught DLC for Call of Duty: Ghosts for free last weekend, Activision has confirmed on PS blog that it's going to roll out a free multiplayer demo for Call of Duty: Ghosts this weekend.

Starting at 6pm PT on Friday, May 2, until 6pm PT on Monday, May 5, PS3 and PS4 owners will be able to download a Call of Duty: Ghosts multiplayer demo from the PlayStation Store.

The special trial includes three different maps, in the form of StrikeZone, Warhawk, and Prison Break.

The levels offer wildly distinctive experiences, as StrikeZone is a close-quarters one that favors sub-machine guns and shotguns and features a dynamic experience that sees a Kinetic Energy Missile strike the stadium and change the way the whole map looks and plays.

Warhawk is a mid-size map that allows players to go on three distinct paths through a busy urban environment filled with snipping vantage points but also tight alleys perfect for flanking.

Prison Break, like its name suggests, takes place in and around a prison in a tropical jungle. Snipers can use the cliff edges as vantage points, while ground forces can employ the different bits of cover to traverse the environment.

Besides the three maps, there are three different modes in the Ghosts multiplayer trial, starting with the ubiquitous Team Deathmatch, Domination, and Search and Rescue.

Domination sees players try to gain control of three flags around the map, thereby acquiring points leading to victory. Search and Rescue sees players fight against enemies but, if they die, they drop their tags. If a teammate picks them up, they respawn, but if an enemy gets to them first, they remain dead.

Last but not least, the Ghosts multiplayer demo features the Extinction cooperative mode, which tasks players with working together to stop the Cryptid aliens by destroying their hives and forces.
