Blizzard has released the Battle.net Mobile Authenticator for the iPhone, aimed at World of Warcraft players who are serious about keeping their accounts safe. According to those who've tested it, users are only required to download the free app and make one simple adjustment to their Battle.net account.

Blizzard currently has a piece of hardware for sale called the Authenticator. It pushes out a code based on an algorithm, and keeps players' accounts secure when they sign in to play WoW. The Battle.net Mobile Authenticator is an optional tool. It offers Battle.net account users an additional layer of security to help prevent unauthorized account access. The service extends to players of Blizzard's popular MMORPG, World of Warcraft, who log in to the game using a Battle.net account. The application is installed and accessed by the user on his / her cell phone. Based on the company's latest updates, the iPhone was rumored to get a similar app. It did.

“Do you play World of Warcraft using a Battle.net account? Protect the account with the Battle.net Mobile Authenticator for your iPhone, an optional tool that offers an additional layer of security to help prevent unauthorized account access,” Blizzard says. “The Battle.net Mobile Authenticator gives you the security of two-factor authentication. Each time you log in to a Battle.net account, you’ll use the Battle.net Mobile Authenticator to generate a unique, one-time use password to use in addition to your regular password. Log in with both and you can rest easy knowing that the account is more secure against unauthorized access,” the giant developer of PC games explains.

In order to use Battle.net Mobile Authenticator for iPhone, an Airtime or Wi-Fi connection is required. Main features include the ability to simply load the app to display the digital code on your iPhone, and the possibility to take your iPhone wherever you play World of Warcraft and future Battle.net games, knowing that the account is secure. Supported languages include English, Français, Deutsch, Español, Русский and 한국어 (Korean).

Blizzard also asks those looking into the tool to note that Battle.net Mobile Authenticator is not compatible with online play for “classic” Battle.net games, including StarCraft, Diablo II, and Warcraft III.
