Fraudsters will turn to all sorts of tricks to make sure their scammy messages are received by as many potential victims as possible. A perfect example is a recent spam run that leverages the Google Calendar app for Android.

According to Webroot experts, scammers are registering thousands of bogus Google accounts which they’re using to send out scammy calendar invites.

“My name is Miss Jessica Ali, It give me a great pleasure to write you. I was browsing when I came across your email contact and it attracts me to write to you so that we can be friends if you have the desire as me,” one bogus invite reads.

This can be an efficient way for advance fee and other types of scammers to get in contact with their victims.

Experts believe that this practice will continue, particularly since scammers can easily register accounts (by outsourcing the CAPTCHA solving process), or purchase access to pre-registered ones.
