Hit singer Frank Ocean was pulled over on New Year’s Eve for speeding. Cops found a bag of marijuana on his person but they let him walk with just a ticket, it has emerged.

TMZ reports that the singer, who made headlines earlier in 2012 after coming out as gay, was driving his car in Mono County, California, going “roughly 90 in a 65.” He was in the company of a friend.

“When officers approached his black BMW, they smelled the odor of marijuana emanating from his vehicle. According to law enforcement, cops searched Ocean and found a small bag of pot on his person,” TMZ writes.

“We're told Ocean was cited for marijuana possession, driving on a suspended license, and tinted windows. Ocean was released on the spot, but his passenger had to drive him home – because cops confiscated Ocean's license,” the celebrity e-zine writes.

Because Ocean is openly gay, the moment word of his encounter with the police got out online, various tabs and celebrity blogs rushed to link the two together.

MediaTakeOut even went as far as to suggest that cops pulled him over because they noticed “suspicious behavior” between the singer and his companion, who was male, MTO argued.

Luckily, Ocean knows better than to pick fights over such reports.

The singer has kept relatively quiet about his encounter with the police, save for tweeting a photo of himself in the backseat of the police car with the caption, “worst trip ever.”

He also confirmed reports of being pulled over by simply admitting the facts, also on Twitter.

“hi guys, i smoke pot. ok guys, bye,” he wrote, adding later, “hi guys, i drive a m3. that [expletive] fast..ok guys, bye. :)”

He let the rest (i.e. all that talk about the possible, rumored reason he was pulled over in the first place) simply slide past him. And it’s for the better that way, other voices online are saying.
