Symantec has announced that Francis deSouza, the company’s president of products and services, will be leaving the IT security giant on December 1. He will become the president of Illumina, a San Diego-based company that specializes in life science research, molecular diagnostics, and genomics.

deSouza joined Symantec back in 2006 when the company acquired IMlogic, a firm he had co-founded.

After his departure, Symantec’s products and services leadership team will report directly to the company’s CEO and President, Steve Bennett.

“Francis made a substantial impact during the seven years he was at Symantec, helping guide the development and restructuring of our product portfolio. We wish Francis every success in his new position,” Bennett commented.

At Illumina, deSouza will also be a member of the executive management team. He will report directly to Jay Flatley, the firm’s CEO.

“Francis' broad technology background, his experience in providing complex technology solutions, and his roles in scaling and leading both entrepreneurial startups and large enterprises make him ideal for the role,” said Flatley.
