Teams need time in order to test out technology and gameplay

Assassin’s Creed III can take creative risks, both when it comes to gameplay and story, only because previous titles in the franchise have met with a lot of success in the market, according to one of the leading developers linked to it.

]Alex Hutchinson, who is the creative director working on the project, has told Eurogamer that, “The core team on this one has been working at it for almost three years, which is something you can almost never get in the industry these days – it’s too expensive, too risky. So we need the other projects to support that kind of development – these big jumps.”

The developer has also suggested that players might only see Conor and the North American setting for one full Assassin’s Creed title.

He added, “We also know players love new characters and radical changes so we’re still figuring a few things out. I don’t know. I think it would be kind of neat at some point to say ‘Connor is a character, he lived in this big epic game, that’s his story’, instead of trying to drag it out too much.”

The previous main character, Ezio, featured in two full titles because of his popularity, although he had to share the spotlight with Altair and with the current timeline Desmond.

The third Assassin’s Creed makes Conor, who is half Native American, the main character and moves the action to the time of the American Revolutionary War.

The core themes of the series will remain the same, but gamers can now also explore the wilderness that separated North American cities from one another and they can get involved in interactions with the local wildlife.

Assassin’s Creed III is being prepared for launch on the PlayStation 3, the Xbox 360 and the PC and will arrive on October 30 in North America and three days later in Europe, with a Nintendo Wii U version also being created.
