14 DAY TRIAL // During the last cyber security forum in Lille, French Defense Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian revealed the government’s intention to invest a total of $1.35 billion (€1 billion) in cyber defense over the upcoming years.
According to Les Echos, the plan is to strengthen the Department of Defense’s cyber operations.
Le Drian says that the number of IT security incidents has increased from 195, recorded in 2011, to 780 last year. These attacks are launched by both hacktivists and foreign governments.
The plan is to recruit more security experts, but also to enhance the skills of existing staff. By 2019, the minister hopes that the Directorate General of Armaments will have 450 cyber experts, which is 200 more than it has today.
The ministry plans on using special recruitment methods to attract talented people.
