As the back-to-school season has entered its main stage, Fractal Design decided it was time to more or less surprise the market with the Define XL, a new mid-tower PC enclosure that comes in two versions, namely Pearl Black or Titanium Grey.

Eager to address gamers' and enthusiasts' desire for an enclosure that is of the same level as the hardware inside of it, Cooler Master recently unveiled the HAF 912 chassis.

Now, Fractal Design has brought forth a casing of its own, namely the Define XL, which can be seen as a sort of sibling to the company's R2/R3 models.

The product features four 5.25-inch drive bays, one of which an be turned into a 3.5-inch bay via a converter.

Also, the chassis can house mini-itx, micro ATX, ATX and E-ATX motherboards, as it measures 232 (D) x 560 (H) x 561.3 (D) mm (the weight is a massive of 17.95 kg).

The number of internal hard drive trays is 10, four of which are in the removable and rotatable HDD cage in the main chamber, the rest being fixed in the lower chamber.

What's more, the hardware maker threw in a 140mm fan on the front, as well as a 180mm top spinner, both of which are controlled via a PCI fan controller.

Of course, a host of other fans can be added should one choose to do so, the list including a 140mm rear fan, a 120mm front spinner and a 120/140mm one on the side.

Other specifications include top-placed USB, eSATA and audio ports, as well as pre-fitted noise absorbing material on the two side panels.

“Similar to Define R2/R3, it offers a number of interesting functions with a very stylish appearance,” states the press release.

“It’s a case focused on low noise level, without neglecting other important features such as cooling, expandability and ease of use.”

The Fractal Design Define XL is available in Pearl Black or Titanium Grey color options, costs £139.99 ($215.6) and can be seen in detail on its product page.
