FoxyTunes is one of the most popular Firefox extensions there are, so popular actually that it was acquired by Yahoo! Music for $40 million and they continued to develop it. Its latest release has added support for YouTube to the growing list of web services it supports. Now you can control the video and also browse playlists with the toolbar. For now you can only control the videos on YouTube.com but the developers say they will add support for embedded videos soon.

FoxyTunes started out as a simple add-on to control your music player from the browser. It offered support for several players and also showed information about the song playing in the toolbar. Nothing revolutionary up to here, but other features like lyrics and artist search really changed the way we listen to music, turning it into something interactive. With just one click users can go to the artist’s Wikipedia entry, or search for lyrics or track information online. After it was acquired by Yahoo! it incorporated the company's web media player so any link to an mp3 file can be played inside the browser without downloading the file. FoxyTunes also supports many web services like last.fm, Pandora or Rhapsody Online. Now, FoxyTunes isn't just a simple player add-on, it’s a way to connect your music files to the power of the Internet.
