It appears that the long-lasting series of lawsuits on the IT market is not bound to cease any time soon, as Foxconn has begun a legal battle against a certain other company in Taiwan, though the exact goal is not altogether clear.

Patent infringement lawsuits have been sprouting up all over the IT industry as far back as the patent system was conceived.

Rambus, for instance, is among the best known for calling other companies to court over supposed violation of its intellectual property.

Of course, there are few, if any, companies, save for, perhaps, the youngest ones, that have managed to avoid the pitfalls of IT-related law.

The newest patent infringement case that sprouted may not be of the same caliber as the dispute over chipsets between Intel and NVIDIA, but it is still somewhat notable, considering that Foxconn is the one doing the suing.

The defendant, in this case, is another firm from Taiwan, a certain Suyin, which specializes in various things, one of them being CPU socket connectors.

Basically, Hon Hai Precision (Foxconn) claims that its patent rights on the making of such connectors are infringed.

The legal action was filed with the Dongguan Intermediate People's Court of China but there is no other information included in the report which brought this event to the attention of the press.

Since nothing more was said, it is impossible to know for sure just what Foxconn seeks through this affair.

Of course, based on what such lawsuits are usually for, one can (possibly) safely assume the outfit wants a cease and desist order and monetary damages.

Unfortunately, it is the nature of such proceedings to take months, if not years, so it will take quite some time to see which side emerges victorious and, consequently, if the plaintiff achieves whatever goal it has in mind.
