Redmond-based software giant Microsoft has been long rumored to be en-route to bring to the market its own smartphone running under the Windows Phone platform, yet no official confirmation on the matter has emerged so far.

However, following rumors last week that the company has partnered with Foxconn for the manufacturing of the device, new reports suggesting the same thing have emerged online.

According to a recent article on DigiTimes, “sources from the upstream supply chain” claim that Microsoft has already placed orders for the Surface phone with the ODM.

The smartphone is expected to run under the Windows Phone 8 operating system, and might arrive on shelves in the first half of the next year, rumor has it. Foxconn International Holding (FIH) hasn’t commented on the rumors as of now.
