In a statement issued Friday, long time Apple-partner Foxconn confirmed it had risen the pay of a junior level worker in Shenzhen to 1,800 yuan, or roughly $290 per month.

This is the third time Foxconn increases employee wages amid controversy, and the pay could be further raised to 2,200 yuan and above, should the worker pass a technical examination.

Pay three years ago was 900 yuan a month, according to Foxconn. "As a top manufacturing company in China, the basic salary of junior workers in all of Foxconn's China factories is already far higher than the minimum wage set by all local governments," the electronics assembler said.

Foxconn pledged to “provide more training opportunities and learning time, and [to] continuously enhance technology, efficiency and salary, so as to set a good example for the Chinese manufacturing industry."
