Boss of iPhone factories says competitors are to blame

Terry Gou, the Chinese magnate who runs the Foxconn factories responsible for assembling the iPhone 6, is none too happy about the Bendgate reports.

He believes the iPhone, much like any other smartphone, doesn’t just bend. He blames the rumor on the competitors’ fury.

“How can a phone bend? This was all caused by distortions from competitors. Don’t blindly listen to it,” Foxconn’s CEO Terry Gou said in a video interview uploaded to YouTube this week.

Well, it can, Mr. Gou. It’s not a question of will the phone will, but under what circumstances. We understand you were trying to fend off the press as quickly as possible, but you need to pick your words more carefully.

Gou, who proudly clutches his own iPhone 6 Plus in the embedded video, added that “Hands are made to shake hands, not for bending,” according to a transcript of the interview.

This is either some Chinese proverb I can’t wrap my head around, or something got lost in translation. Because shaking is the last reason why nature equipped us with hands.

While you may think it’s nice to see the CEO of Foxconn defending the iPhone, keep in mind that the guy is making truckloads of money off Apple. Watch the clip below, and if you’re a Chinese speaker, drop us a line and clue us in.
