One of the oldest superheroes that America has to offer, Flash Gordon, is about to come to the big screen. The comic book hero that is celebrating his 80th anniversary this year is about to make a breakthrough on the silver screen.

In an effort to satisfy the ever-growing market for superheroes, movie studios are having to dig further back into history or risk coming up with new material. And since that's not the case, they're digging up old comic books our fathers and grandfathers used to read and blowing new life into the stories and the characters.

The Hollywood Reporter is claiming that Twentieth Century Fox has bought the screen rights for the pulp comic-strip hero and has already assigned men to the project. The site is saying that John Davis is producing the movie and J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay, who wrote the “Star Trek 3” script have been tapped to start working on the story.

It seems that this deal has been planned for a long time and was just finalized after a year of negotiations with the Hearst Corporation.

For those that can still remember, this isn't the first time that Flash Gordon makes his way to the big screen. There has been a previous movie made in the ‘80s, but everyone agrees that it was cheesy and colorful, despite the fact that is stars Timothy Dalton and had a soundtrack by Queen.
